A film about beetles (probably cross-posted)
This is my first post here, so I don't really know how appropriate this is, so let me know...

I made a film about an entomologist searching for a beetle, and I thought some of you might be interested in seeing it.
This is the trailer:

The full (13min) film is here: http://www.lifeonterra.com/episode.php?id=121

A quick update, and POTD # 38

Man, am I glad this week is done. It's been pretty hectic, considering fieldwork for one of our projects was cancelled. I still had sampling trips to Everglades National Park and Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge this past Tuesday and Thursday, which were tiring, and in between there's still the counting to be done. Aaah, well, the good old weekend is well, and it's time to relax. Happy birthday to ms_golightly86 , and I wish y'all a good weekend...

Identify this bug?
Hi! I live in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA and my friend found these bugs in and around his room. Anyone know what they could be? Thanks! :)

Man, it seems like it's been forever since I posted last. Maybe it's just all the work I've been done for the past few days. I finally finished my third (out of five) sets of algae to count (only 250 more slides to go!), and I'm getting myself psyched up to go for two straight weeks of fieldwork. Thank God there aren't as many mosquitoes around this time of the year! Good news is that today's fieldwork was cancelled, which leaves me available to get all equipment and instruments calibrated and ready for next week's excursions, while making sure that all the data and photos from the past couple of weeks gets downloaded. Whew! Hope I have enough time for all of that. All this stuff to do on a Friday makes me wish that I could just chill and hang out, like this guy...

... yep, just hang out...

Another update... and POTD # 0025

Here I am, sneaking into the lab from which I have been banned, to make up for not giving you guys my photo of the day. And here it is...

A lubber (grasshopper) laying its eggs...
Makes for a somewhat voyeuristic experience, but there it is...

Hope you guys like it...

This is a test of the emergency broadcast system...

Attention please. Yes, may I have y'alls attention? As of this time, the entire nation of South Florida is on its way to shutdown status over the next couple of days. This is in response to the potential problem that tropical storm/tropical depression/full-blown hurricane Ernesto might/could cause. All the news talks about is Ernesto. The university shut down because of Ernesto (son of a gun, am I gonna lose a couple of days on my paycheck because of this guy?). The way things are going, Ernesto is going to go rampaging through Florida, all the while causing famine, pestilence, plague and war, the likes of which we've never seen. That is, of course, unless it spares the state. That, and it's just a herald for the next world-ending, cataclysmic storm. Puh-lease...
But for now, more apologies for lost opportunities to update said journal. I WILL make sure to take care of myself and mine, and WILL make sure to let y'all know how we fare. For now, ta-ta you, my friends, and I leave you this...
